How To Create a Photography Timeline For Your Wedding

Something magical happens in your heart when you see truly spectacular wedding photos. The emotion of the bride, groom, and everyone involved seems palpable even as the years go by. You may think that these perfect moments come together by chance, but it’s actually very important to create a timeline with your wedding photographer. Doing this ensures that the photography team can be in the right place at the right time to capture all the excitement, joy, and love in each moment.
Planning a Timeline with Your Wedding Photographer
Let’s take a look at a typical wedding day and some of the most valued memories you won’t want your wedding photographer to miss.
Pre-Ceremony
· Bridal Preparation: This is a great opportunity for candid shots of the bride and her bridesmaids and parents. It’s also a popular to have photos taken of the wedding dress, shoes, and rings before they’re put on.
· Groom Preparation: Similar to the bridal preparation, the groom preparation offers an intimate look at the groom, the best man, and the groomsmen as they don their tuxedoes.
· First Look: Some couples like to see each other before the ceremony so the first moment their eyes meet in their wedding vestments can be captured forever.
Ceremony
· The Ceremony: This is the climactic moment of the day. The wedding photographer will take photos from multiple angles, capturing the vows, the exchanging of rings, and the kiss.
· Formal Photos: Just after the ceremony is the traditional time for wedding photos. The wedding photographer will take a series of photos of different groups in the wedding party including the bride and groom, their parents, the bridesmaids, the groomsmen, and shots with everyone together.
· Creative Photo Session: After the formal photos, many people like to take some creative, fun, or silly photos to make their photos unique. Many of these have to do with the theme of the wedding.
· Cocktail Hour: While the main photographer is working on the formal photos, another member of the photography team will take photos of the guests and capture candid and emotional moments.
Reception
· Toasts: Toasts by the best man and maid of honor normally occur before or after the meal and represent some of the happiest moments of the day.
· First Dance: The bride and groom take their first spin on the dance floor.
· Dances with Parents: The bride and her father have a dance while the groom and his mother do the same.
· Bouquet and Garter Toss: This is the moment when the bride throws her bouquet into the crowd and the groom does the same with the bride’s garter. These candid shots are typically full of laughter.
· Cake Cutting: A classic wedding shot that shows the love and nurturing relationship (and maybe a little playful comedy) between the bride and groom.
· Dancing: Finally, the party begins as everyone gets on the dance floor to celebrate with the bride and groom. The wedding photographer will circulate and take candid photos of all the guests. These tend to be some of the most memorable and entertaining, especially if there’s an open bar!
